This is the bit I definitely disagree with.

I'm certainly not offended by it, but then I can't agree with a coding
standard that I think is wrong.

The thing I definitely agree with, is that having the unit test is
certainly better than not having it, infact I'm very grateful to people
like you that write unit tests, you're doing a great job.
