One other thing...

I am planning on developing some external code very soon which will rely upon
IM.  While I recognize that this reconstructive surgery is necessary, and I
don't want to get in your way, please take the trouble to provide documentation
for any changed interfaces (or better yet, backwards-compatibility and warnings
-- but this might be too difficult to be worthwhile).  If you don't, I may have
to revert your changes temporarily in order to get my demo working.
